Gov. Bryant and Salvation Army of Jackson hosting a FILL-A- FOOD BOX drive for Hurricane Sandy Victims of New Jersey
JACKSON– Gov. Phil Bryant encourages Jackson-area residents to participate in a food drive to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. The Office of the Governor and Salvation Army of Jackson have organized the FILL-A-FOOD BOX food drive, which begins Thursday.
Boxes can be picked up between Thursday, Nov. 15 and Sunday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the parking lot of Walmart in Madison. All boxes should be filled with nonperishable food items such as canned vegetables, canned fruit, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, crackers etc.
The Salvation Army of New Jersey will directly distribute the food boxes to the people and families in need throughout the communities of New Jersey that were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
“Deborah and I continue to pray for and work diligently in assisting our friends of New Jersey,” Gov. Bryant said. “The Salvation Army Food Box is just one more way Mississippians can ensure that hunger is not an issue for the recovery of New Jersey during this holiday season. Unfortunately Mississippians know all too well about disasters, but we also remember the kindness we received from fellow people from all around the country. I appreciate the Salvation Army, KLLM Transport Services and the Mississippi Volunteer Commission for their support in this relief effort.”
Captain Ken Chapman, Regional Coordinator and Corps Officer for Jackson said, “I am so thankful for Gov. Bryant and his willingness to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy through the services of the Salvation Army. Our personnel will work diligently to get these food boxes to the people who need them most. I know that the generous people of the great state of Mississippi will fill-up this truck and bring the much needed food boxes to storm victims who are now battling the threat of winter storms,”
If you are unable to fill a box, please know your monetary gift is needed as well. You may text the word “storm” to 80888 for a $10.00 donation or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY to donate directly to Hurricane Sandy Relief.
